Climbing champions

Snappers are aquatic animals, but they have for certain
a great ability as hikers.

They usually leave water to lay eggs around June, and thats when they can prove themselves.

Snappers travel overland im search of the nesting area for quite a distance.
I've heard of someone spotting one laying eggs as far as 10 miles ( 16 kilometers ) from the nearest water !
On their way, the snappers climb hills, fallen trees and other obstackles on their way. Anyone handling a snapper will soon discover how powerful those animals are. Their shells post just a little extra weight for a walking snapper. Their front and hint legs are no match to other species of
common aquatic turtles.

I keep some of my snappers in tanks with walls about 20 inches ( 50 cm ) high, yet I had one of them ( 8 inches straight shell length )
climb it and take a walk !!!

It happened on three occasions, until I secured the top of the tank. I remember the morning when I woke up and couldn't find my snapper in the tank. I couldn't believe it ! It was the last thing I could imagine my pet would do ! Anyway, I've found my lonely snapper sitting in the next room
behind the TV set.

So, my advice to all You snapping turtle lovers: watch out !
The next time You wake up You might find them by your bedside begging for food !!!
